2010 CANAL SWEEP
The RfMC-GCD did the Erie Canal Clean Sweep as a community service project again this year. We use the Canal bike
path on some of our training rides, so this is a great way to give a little back to our community.
3RD ANNUAL SPIN-A-THON
to benefit The Ride for Missing Children - GCD.
Thank you to all who participated!
The RIDE for Missing Children-Greater Capital District held a 12 hour Spin-a-thon
at Gold's Gym in Clifton Park on March 7th.
The event was held from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with 23 Spinning bikes.
This was the 2nd year of the event and drew over 80 participants.
Gold's Gym Spinning instructors volunteeered their time to lead the participants in high energy indoor cycling
journeys for 12 hours non-stop.
The day began with a welcome and poster dediactin to Craig Frear. Each hour was dedicated to another capital district
missing child/person.
Craig's mom, Veronica Frear particpated in the Spin and offered a hearfelt thank you to all the supports. Suzanne
Lyall's paretns, Doug and Mary were also present to share their thanks and story with the spinners.
At 2:00 pm we held a luminary service in honor of the dedications and all missing persons. The candles remained
lit until the commnencment of the day.
Our RIDE committee and Gold's Gym members raised $1870.00 for NCMEC and The Center for HOPE. Monies were donated
to NCMEC for posters and to support The RIDE- GCD 2009.
News channels Fox 23, News 9 and 10 all broadcasted clips of the event with testimonies from RIDE chairman, Stacy
Herron and co-chairman and 12 Hour Spin event coordinator, Regina Epp (see attached links)
